The Cami de Ronda is a beautiful coastal path on the Costa Brava coast of Spain. It is part of a longer walk called the GR92.

Spain This Way review: The highlights of our recent trips to the Costa Brava have been walking different sections of the Cami de Ronda.

Cami de Ronda, Calella de Palafrugell to Llafranc

The Cami de Ronda coastal path starts at Portbou near the border with France and finishes 190 kilometers further south at Blanes.

The path was originally created for the coast guards to survey the coast in search of smugglers.

To walk the entire length takes approximately ten days but most people walk smaller sections for the pleasure of the stunning views that can be seen along the way.

The route is marked with signs reading Cami de Ronda or GR92 or occasionally 'Sender Mediterraneo', and with red and white 'flags' painted on signs, trees or rocks on the route.

If you wish to walk the entire path then there are ten main stages and at the end of each of these you will be at a town with accommodation. These stages are:

Portbou – Llançà : 10 kilometers

Llançà – Cadaqués : 19.5 kilometers

Cadaqués – Roses : 21.5 kilometers

Roses – L’Escala : 20.5 kilometers

L’Escala – Torroella : 21 kilometers

Torroella – Begur : 21.5 kilometers

Begur – Palamos : 22.5 kilometers

Palamos – S’Agaró / Sant Feliu de Guíxols : 14.5 kilometers

S’Agaró / Sant Feliu de Guíxols – Tossa de Mar : 23.5 kilometers

Tossa de Mar – Lloret de Mar : 13 kilometers

This is a lot of kilometers and also the terrain is quite uneven in some stages and involves lots of steps up and down in others and so it is necessary to be fairly fit and wear good shoes and carry water, sun screen etc.

It is possible to do the walks with groups who will take luggage from hotel to hotel.

However the majority of us will just wish to walk individual sections or parts of the sections and whichever bits you do you are sure to get some great views.

The coast is particularly lovely around Begur and one of our favorite sections is the walk from Platja Fonda, a lovely fairly wild beach, through the pretty ancient fishing village of Fornells and on to the popular beach at Aiguablava.

The path goes up and down a lot of steps but is very pretty and not too far.

If you are visiting or staying at Calella de Palafrugell you can walk the short and fairly flat section to the lovely small resort of Llafranc. This would be an easy section to walk as a family.

Walk a little past Llafranc to the Cap de Sant Sebastia for some sweeping views along the coast.

From Saint Feliu de Guixols there is a fairly easy walk to the beach and small resort of Sant Pol with its distinctive colourful beach huts. If you have the energy continu to S'Agaro.

Tossa de Mar is one of our favourite towns on the Costa Brava and from here the walk south to Lloret de Mar is very pleasant with a lot of the walk through pine woods. In the other direction you get dramatic coastal views.
