Spain This Way review: Fornells is a charming village with some pebble beaches and bathing platforms. Its position on a lovely section of the Cami de Ronda makes it particularly worth visiting.

Fornells is a picturesque village set around one side of the Bay of Aiguablava and overlooking Aiguablava beach and the Parador of Aiguablava on the other side.
Fornells started out as a fishing village and still has some fishing but is mostly a small seaside resort now. It's main hotel is the 4-star Hotel Aigua Blava with stunning views over the village and coast.
There are several small coves with pebble beaches or swimming platforms from where you can swim and enjoy the crystal clear waters. These are the Cala n'Estasia, the Cala Port de ses Orats, the Cala d'en Maralet and Cala Port d'Escalanya.
A short walk to the north is the beach of Platja Fonda. This is a small beach of coarse sand and to reach it you have to walk down quite a lot of steps. There are no beach facilities here and so it remains quite a quiet, peaceful beach.
In the other direction from Fornells you can walk to the very popular beach of Aiguablava. This is a lovely sandy beach with a beach bar and various facilities.
The walk is short but with lots of steep steps up and down along the coast.
This path is one of the key attractions of Fornells. It is a part of the coastal path of the Costa Brava called the Cami de Ronda and indeed it is on one of the loveliest sections of this beautiful coastal path.
In the village of Fornells as well as the attractive little port called Ses Orats look out for the picturesque house overlooking the port which belonged to the writer and politician Bonaventura Sabater, known as Xiquet.
There is a small amount of parking at Fornells but it fills up quickly and so arrive early. If you are too late you could try the Platja Fonda parking and walk from there to Fornells.
Aiguablava also has a car park but this probably fills up before Fornells.

Be sure to walk along the Cami de Ronda, it really is a lovely path with superb views over the rocky coast.
After relaxing at the beach of Aiguablava continue along the path to the beautiful small but chic resort of Tamariu. From Fornells to Tamariu is a walk of a bit less than an hour.
Begur is a lovely hill top village well worth a visit whilst you are here and it has lots of options for lunch or dinner.
