Spain This Way review: A long sandy beach, Modernist style houses and some fabulous beach huts make this beach and small resort a treat.

Sant Pol

Sant Pol has a nice sandy beach, about 900 meters long, with all the expected facilities including boat hire, windsurfing, diving and kayaking.

There is also a kids club and a children's play area making it a good choice for families.

The beach slopes gently into the sea which again is great for families with young children.

For experienced swimmers there is a swimming channel from Sant Pol beach to Cala Mussols a little to the south round the edge of the rocky coast. This offers relative safety for swimmers wishing to swim away from the beach.

This area is marked by buoys to keep boats away and swimmers are recommended to wear a wet-suit and a brightly coloured swimming cap.

One of the main attractions of the Sant Pol beach are its beautiful brightly coloured bathing huts which add to the charm of the beach. These can be rented as can the umbrellas and sunbeds nearby.

Behind the beach are a number of modernista style buildings which are very attractive. There are also a good selection of bars and restaurants to cater to the tourists and locals here.

Sant Pol is also interesting for its dunes. The bay is one of the only places on the Costa Brava coast which is home to coastal dune formation. The dunes and their plant life are protected along the coast.

In the water there is a protected sea meadow grass area and an area has also been set up to protect the sea horses which live in the waters here.

Sant Pol is on the fabulous Cami de Ronda coastal path which stretches along the Costa Brava from near the French border to Blanes.

It is a lovely walk from nearby Sant Feliu de Guixols to here and then you can carry on along to S'Agero.

From Sant Pol to S'Agero is about a 40 minute walk and passes some splendid sea front homes along the way.

Just before reaching the up market resort of S'Agero you will get to the lovely beach of Cala Sa Conca. This is a nice sandy beach with rocks at both edges making it very pretty and also good for snorkling.
