Visit Tamariu

Tamariu is a small beach resort on the Costa Brava coast a little to the north of Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell.

Explore Tamariu

Spain This Way review: Tamariu is a beautiful little seaside town with a nice sandy beach and which has retained its charm despite its popularity.

Tamariu is a former fishing village located in a beautiful cove with a nice sandy beach rising up on either side with a rocky hillside dotted with villas and pine trees.

It is a pretty idyllic spot and for this reason parking can be extremely difficult in the height of summer. It is best to either visit early or out of peak season.

Tamariu is small but offers a few beachside bars and restaurants to add to the enjoyment of your visit

The beach is obviously the main draw and it is a blue flag beach and shelves gently into the sea which is not always the case on this coast but makes the sea more accessible to young children and families.

Tamariu is also popular with divers as there are lots of caves along the coastline and the submerged mountain of Llosa de Cala Nova.

Walk along the path around the rocky north end of the beach and you will discover a tiny sandy cove hidden behind.

Tamariu is named after the Tamarisk trees which line the beachfront promenade and add to the prettiness of the main beach.

Behind the beach is the small town of Tamariu with its whitewashed houses. It has a few hotels and restaurants and is pleasant to explore.

Attractions to visit near to Tamariu

Tamariu is a short distance from Llafranc which is another small but very attractive resort on the Costa Brava coast.

Calella de Palafrugell is bigger than Llafranc and Tamariu but is still a small resort and is extremely pretty. It is one of our favourites and is close to the wonderful Cap Roig Botanical Gardens which are well worth a visit for both the Mediterranean style gardens and the views over the sea.

The gardens also host the Cap Roig Music Festival every year which often features international stars.

There is a wonderful coastal walk called the 'Cami de Ronda which stretches from Blanes to Portbou. Tamairu is on the walk and could be approached from the north or the south.

A few kilometers north of Tamariu is the lovely medieval town of Begur and near here are some of the very best beaches and small resorts of the Costa Brava coast including Aiguablava which is also on the Cami-de-Ronda.
